The short answer

Some links on this site — specifically the book links on the bookshelf and inside posts — are paid links. If you buy something after clicking one, I earn a commission. The price you pay is exactly the same either way. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Nothing else on this site is monetised. There are no ads, no sponsored posts, no paid placements, and no tracking beyond basic analytics.

The rules I hold myself to

A recommendation is only worth something if it could have gone the other way. So:

I have read every book I link to, end to end. Books I started and abandoned are not on the list.
No one pays for placement. No publisher, author, or vendor has ever paid me to include or exclude anything, and I would say so here if they had.
I say when something is not worth it. Several entries on the bookshelf carry an explicit "skip it if" note. A list where everything scores nine out of ten is a sales page, not a recommendation.
The commission never decides the ranking. Every book pays roughly the same rate, so there is no version of this where I could be bought cheaply anyway — but more to the point, ordering is by what I would actually hand someone.
I do not display prices. Prices change and stale ones mislead. Links go to the live product page so you see the real number.

The technical details

Affiliate links carry the Amazon Associates tag mosharif-20 and are marked up with rel="sponsored nofollow", which is how search engines are told a link is monetised. Each one is also labelled (paid link) where it appears, and every post containing one opens with a disclosure above the first link.

I use no link shorteners, redirects, or cloaking of any kind. When you hover a link on this site, the destination you see is the destination you get.

My own book

I wrote From Code to Culture, which appears on the bookshelf alongside other people's books. I earn a royalty on it in addition to the affiliate commission, which is a bigger conflict of interest than any other entry on the list — so it is worth saying out loud rather than burying. Judge that entry accordingly.
